Pioneer Shopping Center

Prior to the establishment of businesses within the township, early residents traveled by horse and wagon to Ruikka's General Store in the village of Thomson for their home and farm supplies. Proprietor Henry Ruikka is in the foreground of this undated photo, believed to be from the 1890s. The building, last used as an antique shop, still stands at the same location today, idle.
