A Summer Day at Thomson Dam

A Summer Day at Thomson Dam

The rocky outcrops and sometimes turbulent waters of the St. Louis River below Thomson Dam have captivated Esko area residents and visitors for more than a century.  The 38-foot high dam, one-fifth of a mile long (and only partially shown here), was completed in 1907.  It is in the City of Thomson, a separate political jurisdiction from Thomson Township, and is about four miles from Esko’s “town center.”  An observation area and parking lot are near the east side of the dam.
