Last Class Before the Fire

They couldn’t know it at the time, but these eighth graders would be the last to graduate from the Tweith School before it was destroyed by the 1918 Fire. Also known as the Nels Johnson School, it was at the corner of the Erickson and North Cloquet Roads.  In front row, from left, are teacher Bertha Anderson and students Viola Johnson, Selma Pera, Saima Perttula, Gladys Johnson and Lydia Peters.  In back row, from left, are Peter Flycet (also spelled Flyket), Oscar Anderson and Hilbert Anderson.  (Photo courtesy of Rodney Ikola)
