Nikki, the Flying Flynn

Nikki, the Flying Flynn

Nikki Flynn, described by the Cloquet Pine Knot as “perhaps the best female softball player to come out of Carlton County,” graduated from Esko in 1996. Starting in seventh grade, she played in every Esko game for six years, including two state tournaments. At North Dakota State, she was the starting shortstop and leadoff hitter for four years and led the Bison to an NCAA Division II championship in 2000. She set seven national records, including career hits and stolen bases. Noted for her headfirst slides, she was once characterized by a reporter as “a walking Tide commercial.” Esko was state runner-up in Flynn’s senior year, but won the championship in 1998.
