Esko Historical Society

The Esko Historicial Society generally meets the third Monday of the month at 1pm at the Thomson Town Hall. Annual dues for members are $10. If you are interested in joining, send with your check your name, address, phone and email address to Esko Historical Society, P.O. Box 83, Esko, MN 55733.

Membership is open to anyone interested (where else can you join anything for 10 bucks a year?) and volunteers are always welcome to help with museum projects or special events such as the annual Esko Fun Days.

Inquiries—or donations—may be sent to Esko Historical Society, P.O. Box 83, Esko, MN 55733. The society is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible.  Since our Society is a non-profit, we rely on donations, grants, membership dues, book sales and other sales, fund raising, and aluminum cans deposited in the trailer by the museum. Any financial help would be greatly appreciated. Historical items donated will be acknowledged in writing.

The first officers of the Finnish American Memorial Foundation in 1953 were Rudolph Rautio, president; Selim Lamminen, vice president; Arne Heino, secretary; and Edgar Olson, treasurer. The first board members were Emil E. Johnson, Victor Maki, Evert Myllymaa, Otto Korby and Waino Heikkinen. The organization’s name was changed to the Esko Historical Society in 1977.

The Esko-Thomson Township History Book Project was authorized and supported by the society.

We have ongoing new projects. Our latest is an exhibit in the Thomson Town Hall lobby: two beautiful cabinets containing military paraphernalia from World Wars I and II plus wall plaques showing the names of township residents who served in those wars.
